VOICES OF THE
AFRICAN DIASPORA

ABOUT

OUR HISTORY

The African American Master Artists-In-Residency Program was founded in 1977 by artist and professor Dana Chandler, who, through Northeastern University President Ken Ryder, was able to offer studio space to other African Diaspora artists. In return for the use of space, artists made their studios accessible to students, educators and visiting artists.

AAMARP became widely recognized as a catalyst for harmonious relations between
people of all backgrounds in a racially diverse community; A stimulus to excellence in
artistic productivity.
